About Us
The Mount Pleasant Symphony
The Mount Pleasant Symphony Orchestra is composed of professional and amateur musicians from Charleston and the Lowcountry. Since 1995, we have been run by musicians, for musicians. We employ a contemporary approach in sharing and promoting symphonic music, maintaining excellence in performance and providing entertaining historical context in order to maximize accessibility. The Mt Pleasant Symphony is committed to providing these concerts for the Charleston Community free of charge to promote the vitality of the musical arts. We are firm believers in the power of music; that it is has the power to unite people and bring communities together.
We theme our programs and we rarely perform an entire symphony. Our programs tend somewhat toward the genre of “samplers.” They tell a story of a musical style, nationality or movement. Music is chosen to engage the instrumentation and size of the orchestra (currently 40+ pieces), to capture their interest and technically challenge them, with an eye toward connecting dots for listeners who may or may not be fully invested in classical or art music.
Please come enjoy one of our free concerts! We look forward to seeing you.
